How to Update a Custom Skin Safely

Safely update a custom VirtualDJ skin by backing up files, checking compatibility and keeping a rollback copy.

Before changing a working DJ setup, give yourself a way back. Download the current product files from My Account and keep a separate copy of the ZIP that you know works.

Read the compatibility notes

Check the product page for the supported VirtualDJ version and any revised installation instructions. A VirtualDJ application update can change available interface features, so confirm compatibility before a performance rather than immediately before opening.

Keep custom changes separate

If you have manually edited a skin, save that edited file under a clearly different name. Replacing the original ZIP may overwrite those changes. VirtualDJSkins can support the supplied product, but a locally modified version may behave differently.

Test away from a live event

Install or select the updated skin while you have time to check browser access, deck controls, waveforms, video or karaoke panels and the display resolution you actually use. For controller workflows, verify the important on-screen feedback as well as hardware operation.

Roll back if necessary

If the update does not suit your setup, close VirtualDJ and restore the known working package or reselect the previous interface. Keep notes about your VirtualDJ version and the skin file version so a support request can be reproduced accurately.

Do not delete your only working copy until the replacement has passed a full practice session.
